The greatest wealth is to live content with little.
Plato (c. 428–348 BC) was Socrates' student and founded the Academy in Athens, the first institution of its kind in the Western world. He wrote in dialogue form, with Socrates usually leading the conversation. The Republic and the Symposium are among the most influential texts in Western philosophy.
About this theme: Wisdom
In the Western tradition wisdom is almost always defined by what it is not. Socrates is famous for claiming to know that he knew nothing; that was not modesty but method. Knowledge is a set of facts, wisdom is knowing what to do with them — and, more often, knowing when there are not enough of them.
